Chairman's welcome

Having assumed that my youth had been misspent, idling away hours of my time in front of the latest cinema or video release, it came as a huge surprise to me when I applied and was accepted into a university to study 'Film and TV Production'. Watching a film in the morning, a pint and sandwich for lunch, and a healthy argument about the film for the rest of the afternoon - it's a degree I can heartily recommend.

On leaving college, I worked in several areas of TV production and finally settled on music production. I have composed and produced music for television for the last ten years, and enjoy it very much, but am still passionate about film. This is why I feel a great sense of excitement as we launch the Suffolk Digital Cinema Network. I hope that it becomes a great success and continues to entertain and inspire people across Suffolk for years to come.

As members of the Network, you will be able to borrow equipment in order to put on screenings in your local venues. Already, more than thirty organizations have joined. We have secured the use of two sets of touring equipment, and hope to acquire a third later this year. Early indications are that existing and potential members plan at least 300 screenings a year, once the Network is fully up and running.

As far as we know, no other county has attempted to support community film screenings in quite this way and on this scale. There are bound to be some initial problems as we all get to grips with the equipment, the needs of our local audiences, and the procedures we have introduced to try and make it all work smoothly. Please bear with us, and remember that advice and support is available to help you make a success of your screenings.
